Intermediate Oil Painting
Wednesdays, Oct 9, 16, 23, 30 and Nov 6
3:30 – 6:30PM
Instructor: Skyler D’Vincent
“Intermediate Oil Painting” will focus on painting with layers. This course will focus on the indirect “Flemish” style of the Baroque period; the same method used by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Caravaggio. Students will have 5 days to work create 1 finished painting in the span of one month. This is an intermediate class where all levels of experience are welcome to learn the basics of this technique, but students should be aware that some drawing experience may be necessary, since this technique requires a drawing intensive session. The class sessions will consist of each major step in this process: The Under drawing, the Umber layer, The Tone layer, the Color layer, and the final detail layers. The process can be intimidating, but this will be a pressure-free environment designed to only teach the technique in an easily accessible way. Students will be taught the “how” of this method, and not expected to replicate the exact aesthetic of master painters.
*Materials cost will provide students with a glass palette, an artist-grade oil paints set, Non-toxic Walnut oil medium, a Princeton brush set, a Silverpoint pencil, and an unprimed Wood Panel with cradle.
