WORKSHOPS

The guild offers a wide variety of workshops in different mediums, including pottery, silver jewelry, stained glass, decorative painting, weaving, quilting, bead making, pressed flower art, crocheted rugs, mosaics, wood carving, and more. All workshops and classes are open to the public. School age children may be eligible for certain workshops depending on skill level and safety requirements. Please check with the individual instructors for clarification.

MONTHLY GROUPS

YORKTOWN BEADERS' GROUP meets the second Thursday of each month 6:30 - 9:00 pm.
Group Leader:  Pam Leas 717-683-7157 
Monetary donations will be accepted to help cover building maintenance. Are you wild about beads?  Do you peyote, brick, freeform, string?  The YT Beaders share ideas, get help with problems and just enjoy the company of other beaders.  Participants can work on their own projects or take part in a group project. This is an open session, drop-ins are welcome.

YORKTOWN LAMPWORKERS GROUP This group meets the third Thursday at 7:00 PM.  All glass beadmakers are invited to attend. Many of the members formerly called themselves the Susquehanna Sizzlers. The group plans to have demos and opportunities to discuss and work on their individual projects. For more information contact Nolly Gelsinger at ngelsinger@gmail.com.

QUILTERS’ BLOCK PARTY

METALS

SILVER JEWELRY – 6 Sessions

Wednesdays, May 2 – June 6, 7-10 pm
Workshop Fee: Non-member $193/Member $173
Students may purchase additional supplies, if needed, for their chosen project.
This class will focus on the basic tools and techniques of metal working and design.  Instruction includes sawing, filing, forming, silver soldering, stone setting and polishing for the beginning student.  Those with knowledge of the basics of metal work, may work in methods and techniques available in the Guild’s extensive metal studio, including lost wax casting, repousse, forging, tool making, stamping, P.M.C., stone and metal inlay and stone setting.  There will be an increased emphasis on design, execution and finishing for the advanced students.

Workshop Fee:  Non-member $145/Member $125 Includes materials and kiln firing.
Beginner, intermediate and advanced levels welcome, no experience necessary.  Learn the art of working with clay and the fundamental skills needed to create your own unique bowl, cup, vase and more!  We have the tools, techniques, clays, and non-toxic glazes to help you.  We will then fire your creations in the kiln to over 2,000 degrees making them dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe.

Material Fee:  $5 payable to instructor at each workshop.
Scherenschnitte means “scissor cutting” in German. It is an old world craft, a folk art. In this workshop you will learn the techniques of paper cutting to cut out a design or pattern of your choice.  This workshop is for the beginner or the experienced. If you have your own scissors please bring them. A few will be available for class. The scissors need to be small in nature like a pair of manicure scissors with short and pointy tips. Bring an Exacto knife with a number 11 blade if you have one. We will be using both cutting tools.

FUSED GLASS

Workshop Fee:  Non-member $80/Member $72      
Material Fee: $15 payable to Instructor. 
Learn to create your own one-of-a-kind glass cabochons for use in jewelry, bottle stoppers, bookmarks, purse holders, belts, etc. In this class, you will learn to piece together glass as well as etch a piece of dichroic glass and fire your own cabs. Fusing schedules, glass types, and finishing techniques will be discussed, so you will be able to create your own masterpieces in your own kiln if you have one. You will leave this class with three cabochons ready for findings of your choice. (Some findings will be available for purchase.) Glass-cutting experience is helpful but not necessary. You are welcome to bring your own glass-cutting tools.


CHILDREN'S WORKSHOP

HAND BUILT POTTERY
Instructor:  Emily Shoey 
Tuesdays, May 15 – 29, 6:30-8pm
Workshop Fee:  $90
Material Fee: $15 payable to Instructor.       

This workshop shapes clay without using a wheel. Make a
successful piece the first class—no experience necessary.
Students will create unique pieces the first and second sessions
with pick-up and show & tell the third session. (Ages 9–14)


REGISTRATION AND POLICIES

Please read all registration information, deadlines and refund policies carefully, before you register.

Registration is due 2 weeks prior to the start of workshop. Please register early as workshop size is limited and will be filled on a first come, first-served basis.  Pre-registration allows us to ensure your placement in your desired workshops however students may call regarding last minute availability and walk-ins. Methods of payment accepted include check, Master Card or Visa.  The entire workshop fee must be paid at the time of registration.  Materials fee is to be paid to the instructor at the beginning of the first class.  Please plan to be on time so the initial steps of the project are not missed. If you do not hear from us, the class for which you registered  is on and you should attend the first session.

Refunds/Cancellations: No refunds or credits will be issued after the registration deadline. All workshops have a minimum enrollment and we reserve the right to cancel if the minimum enrollment is not met. If a workshop is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the student will be notified and their money will be refunded. Weather Delays/Cancellations: Inclement weather and other circumstances beyond our control may make it necessary for us to cancel a workshop. Students will be notified by their instructor, and the workshop will be rescheduled.
